New home design on the Sunshine Coast

Haven Building Design creates custom house plans for Sunshine Coast homeowners. Work directly with Scott Eccles to turn your ideas and the possibilities of your block into a home designed for the way you live.

A house plan that starts with your site

A room list is a useful starting point, but a good home also needs to work with its surroundings. Where will the living room get daylight? Can you open the house to a breeze without losing privacy? How will you move between the kitchen and an outdoor dining area?

Scott's design approach considers your property's orientation and your individual requirements together. The aim is an open, connected home with indoor and outdoor spaces you will use.

Developing your design

The process begins with a site assessment and a design brief. Concept drawings then test the layout and overall direction, giving you something concrete to discuss before the design moves into detail.

Once you agree on the concept, Scott develops the construction drawings for the next stages of your project. Engineering and other consultant input depend on the proposal; discuss the documentation and responsibilities in your scope before work starts.

Designing for coastal living

Shaded outdoor areas, useful window placement and a considered floor plan can make everyday life more comfortable. These decisions belong in the early design conversation, alongside your preferred finishes and how much space you need. The Australian Government's Your Home passive cooling guide explains the role of shading and ventilation.

What to bring to the first conversation

  • Your site address, or the area where you plan to buy.
  • A survey or site information, if you already have it.
  • Your priorities, construction budget and intended timeframe.
  • Examples of homes you like, with a note about what appeals to you.

New home design questions

Can I have a house designed for my own block?

Yes. Haven Building Design develops individual house designs around the site and your brief. Orientation, access, privacy and the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces all help shape the plan.

Should I speak to a designer before choosing a builder?

An early design conversation helps define what you want to build and what drawings you need. Builder input on cost and construction can also be useful while a concept is developing, before you commit to detailed documentation.

Do I need finished ideas before contacting Scott?

No. Start with your block or suburb, an approximate construction budget and the things that matter to you in a home. Photos and sketches are useful, but you do not need a completed design brief.
