How the design process works

1. Pre-design

Scott begins with a site inspection and assessment, including a photographic survey of the property and surrounding streetscape. Together you establish a design brief that sets out your requirements.

Explain how you use your home now, what you need to change and the construction budget you have in mind. This makes the design conversation specific to your situation.

2. Concept design

Site analysis and a preliminary review of regulatory and authority requirements inform the concept. Scott considers the relationships between rooms and the space each needs, then prepares drawings to communicate the proposed design.

This is the stage to discuss how the layout works for you. Agree the direction before proceeding to the more detailed drawings.

3. Construction drawings

Scott develops the approved concept into plans that describe the design for building approval, engineering and construction documentation. Your project scope should identify the drawings included and the input required from other consultants.

Building approval and engineering are separate responsibilities. Confirm arrangements and fees for these services as part of planning the project.
